Conflicts between real estate professionals and between consumers and real estate professionals result from misunderstanding, miscommunication, or no communication. This course will demonstrate best practices for acting as an Ombuds/Mediator to help resolve conflicts and get parties to an outcome they design and embrace. As a precursor to filing a Code of Ethics complaint, arbitration, or a complaint with the Vermont Real Estate Commission, the Ombuds program has a track record for helping consumers and licensees chart a path forward. This course will convey key concepts and then break into small groups to actively engage in model scenarios designed to put the training into practice. This training is primarily focused on consumer protection. After completing this course, attendees will be prepared to volunteer as Ombuds/Mediators.
